Each month I like to highlight a member of the Gorgeous Strength community for several reasons:

  1. We all have an amazing story to share
  2. As women, we all have similar struggles that we can learn and grow from one another
  3. It is important to motivate, encourage and support women as a community

Kim Lewis is Member of the Month for November 2017.  This women is absolutely amazing.  She is a single working mom of a beautiful boy.  She has learned how to take care of her mind, body and soul and makes that a priority.  She is stunningly beautiful both inside and out.  Take a moment to read her story and the amazing quotes she has selected that keep her focused on her goals.

Spiritual Side of Health

Hi Gorgeous!

I have to share this because you might be in my shoes. If I can save one person a few of my wrong steps I want to help where I can.  This is a topic some people don’t like to talk about and one that I really questioned if I should write about but I feel called to share.

When I started ‘living a healthy lifestyle’ I truly thought a healthy lifestyle came down to the food I ate and the amount/type of exercise I did. If I dialed in those two things I would be fit, healthy and HAPPY but… I wasn’t.

I was missing the biggest part of living a healthy lifestyle and that was faith.

Rewind to 2014 when I started attending church again. I found a church that spoke to my heart, one that I connected with, one that I felt welcomed in. I began attending regularly but still felt lost. I was still searching for something more. I ran across bloggers all of the world that raved about meditation, slowing down and connecting with myself so I gave that a try.  It helped with anxiety for sure but I was still searching.  I was willing to do almost anything to find peace outside of myself.

This was the point that I started listening. I started listening to the signs of my body and to other people that were wiser than me.  One of those people being my baby sister.  My sister is almost 6 years younger than me but wiser beyond my years.  She has immersed herself in the church from a young age.  Her husband, father in law and grand father in law are all pastors and they have a faith outside of themselves that illuminates a room.

It was time to put my ego aside and learn from my baby sister.  Thank goodness I stepped out of my way because the spiritual side of health is what took my health to a whole new level.  To a level I had been seeking but could not find on my own.  

You may be a believer, you may not.  Wherever you are that is totally fine.  I encourage you to try the steps below, to look outside of yourself and put faith in something larger than you.  Once I connected to faith the right things started happening for me in the right timing.  No longer was I forcing or pushing, no longer was I taking one step forward and 5 steps back, no longer did I feel stuck.

I didn’t believe for the longest time.  I questioned that a faith outside of myself could truly propel me forward.  I was a skeptic.  I am the first to say that as soon as I established faith and opened my arms to a greater power, my purpose in life became clear.

Here are my 4 steps to spiritual health:

  1. Prayer – connect with something greater than yourself. I choose God.  I choose to believe that all things are created with Him and when I turn over my life to Him I am serving His purpose.  When I serve His purpose life is easy and clear.  Get out of your own way, stop listening to the false stories you create in your head.  Start praying for guidance and it will come.
  2. Silence – sit in silence, disconnect from the craziness of the world and listen to the signs the world is giving you. Every morning I sit on my patio, look at the stars and read. Most mornings I find myself checking my phone within seconds of looking at the stars but one morning I made a vow not to and I saw the most beautiful shooting star. Without disconnecting and being still I would have missed the beauty this world has to offer.  Are you distracted with busyness? Are you looking past the signs that are right in front of your face?
  3. Questions – ask intelligent questions of yourself and others. Ask questions that will provide you the answers you need to propel yourself forward.  Questions like why.  Why am I doing this? What purpose do this serve? Will this bring me closer to the purpose I serve on this earth?
  4. Listen – listen to the answers of the intelligent questions you ask of yourself and others.  These answers will provide you with the next steps you need to take in life.

Life is bigger than you.  Health is more than eating clean foods and moving your body.  When you learn to step outside of yourself, connect with something greater than you and build your spiritual health, your dreams will become a reality.

3 Questions You Need To Ask

Got goals? I do and I know you do to whether you have them written down or you just wake up in the morning and say to yourself “today is going to be a good day… I’m going to workout and eat perfectly…” or “I’m ready to take action on the business idea I have and will take the first step to launch it today…”

A few hours go by, stress sets in and you’re already digging into the candy bowl.  Before you know it you threw eating healthy out the window and feel so gross that moving your body sounds exhausting.  Why not start over tomorrow?


You chat with your mom on the phone and she says “honey, I’m not sure starting that business  is the best idea…” then your self doubt stops you dead in your tracks.

This pattern repeats day after day, before you know it years have past and you still have the same goal you had 5 years ago with nothing to show for it. Trust me I’ve been there.

Here are 3 Questions To Ask Yourself throughout the day to stay on track.

  1. How am I?  – asking yourself this simple question throughout the day, especially when your hand hits the candy bowl, will help you assess how you’re feeling. Often you will find the moment you go for sugar or have self doubt you’re feeling tired, fatigued, stresses or bored. If you connect with how you are often you can change your mindset from “I want sugar or I’m not good enough” to “I’m stressed, tired, bored, etc, I want to take care of my mind, body and soul by going for a quick walk, talking to a friend, etc”.
  2. What is my goal?  – asking yourself what is your goal throughout the day will allow you to always stay connected with what it is you truly want to accomplish.  If its weight loss but you find yourself overeating on a daily basis you will begin to start making better food choices the more you ask this question. If your goal is to open a business but you’re constantly hitting doubts you will slowly start to see yourself achieving success rather than doubting yourself.  Give it a try.
  3. Will this keep me on track?  – asking this final question and really sitting with the answer before taking action will allow you to say NO to the things that keep distracting you from your goal.

It sounds so simple and it really is! However, the mindset shift does not happen over night. Stay consistent with asking these questions and day by day you will begin to make better choices that align with your goals.


Gorgeous Strength Summit 2017

I’m still on cloud 9 from this past weekend at the Gorgeous Strength Summit.  Seeing so many amazing women come together in one room for the purpose to better themselves was absolutely amazing.

Women from all walks of life joined together to support, motivate and love one another.  Together we experienced tears of sadness and pain that turned to hope and joy.  We experienced uncomfortable situations that turned to laughter and fun.  And, we each walked away with clarity on our life’s purpose so that we can align our daily actions with our goals and achieve our dreams.

The Gorgeous Strength Summit was so much fun and we had so many breakthroughs that we are doing it again next year!

4 Steps to Achieve Your Goals

Hey sista,

I have always been a dreamer.  I truly feel like I can do anything, well almost anything.  When it comes to creating things for myself whether it is a fitness plan, new business idea or financial goal I jump in full force and don’t let anything stand in my way.  No amount of fear, self doubt or number of hurdles can hold me back when I have my mind set on something.

But that was not always how I approached life.

I used to let fear and self doubt hold me back.  I used to live life by what if’s.

  • What if I failed?
  • What if no one liked it?
  • What if I don’t know enough?
  • What if _________?

You will never know if you don’t try right?!  What are you deeply desiring in your life that you’re not taking action on right now because you’re living in the what if’s?

What if I told you it is easier than you think to take action on the life you want to live and the goals you want to achieve?  What if I told you that I believe in you?  What would your life look like a year from now if you took action and you put fourth intentional effort to achieve your goal?

Here are four simple steps that you can apply daily to achieve success.  In time, you will be amazed at the progress you have made.

  1. Connect with your purpose
  2. Create a plan of attack
  3. Celebrate your daily successes (both big and small)
  4. Consistency is key, stay the course

Staying the Course Pays Off

Hi beautiful!

If you’re like me you want results right away.  Weight loss, sign me up if it will be gone tomorrow.  New business idea, sign me up if I can implement it right away.  A magical skin care regimen that will make my skin glow, sign me up if I can see results after one use.

Ok, you get where I’m going with this.

Most my life I looked for immediate results and became frustrated, discouraged or gave up all together if the changes I wanted didn’t come in a timely fashion.

What is it that you’re looking for change in?  Are you impatient?

Take a deep breath with me and say “this time I will stay the course”.

By committing for the long haul and taking small daily steps to get to your big hairy audacious goal you will achieve it, I promise.  Have you heard the saying nothing good comes easy?  It is so true.

True weight loss, beautiful skin, a successful business, etc all take time.

I challenge you to stay the course this time around.  Take the goal you want to achieve so badly and wish you could see the results right now then break it down into small daily and weekly actions that will bring you one step closer to achieving it.  At the end of each day and week reflect upon the progress you’ve made (go back and read my last blog post on reflection).  Celebrate your success and review your upcoming plan for the day and week ahead to ensure you’re always gaining traction.

Accomplishments in life that take time, commitment and consistency are the most rewarding.  When you commit to staying the course and one day achieve your goal you will feel unstoppable.  Begin putting yourself in the shoes of who you will become the day you achieve your goal.  Feel that feeling of accomplishment and use this as fuel to stay the course.

Power of Reflection

Hey gorgeous, thanks for stopping by today!

I want to share the amazing power of reflection with you.

For years I lived life reactive to what the world had to offer.  My mood was determined by the drivers on the way into work or the weather.  My actions were determined by the way others made me feel.  If someone said something that offended me I froze, I worried about what they thought about me the rest of the day and could not find the energy to take action on the things that would propel me forward.

I had to stop this nonsense.  I wanted to be in control of my life not let others control me.

I started journaling every day and it changed my vision.  My eyes opened and I realized that I do have control over my life through a few simple daily actions.  One powerful daily action that helped me change my paradigm is reflection.

Reflection is serious thought or consideration and it is so powerful when you implement it in your life. Here is how it has changed my life and can change yours…

8pm every night I sit in my bed with my journal and a pink pen.  I write two important things.

  1. Successes for the day
  2. Struggles for the day

This simple daily action allows you to celebrate your small wins (successes).  Too often we overlook the accomplishments we had each day to focus on all the things we still need to do.  We deserve to reward ourselves for our accomplishments.  Did you make a dent in a huge project at work?  Celebrate it!  Did you make it to the gym?  Celebrate it!  Did you spend quality time with your family detached from email and social media?  Celebrate it!

On the flip side, writing down the struggles you had for the day is the best way to learn from your mistakes and grow.  This has been a game changer for me.  When I write down my struggles I see where I need to add focus in my life and I am able to see what action steps I can take to eliminate the struggle from happening again or improve upon it.

A struggle I deal with on the daily and is a reoccurring topic in my journal is detaching from social media and work.  I absolutely love what I do.  I could do it from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed.  My struggle is putting my thoughts and ideas away when it is family time.  The moment I became aware of this and started reflecting on it daily I was able to change my routine and realize family time is truly family time.  I still have to talk myself through this one but recognizing it is the first step.  Once you recognize it you can pivot, learn and grow from your struggles.

How to find purpose in your Life

Hey gorgeous,

Today I want to drop a post about finding your purpose because I went through a funk for a few years.

Yes, I let it last that long.

My goal is to help you pivot as soon as you know you’re no longer serving your purpose because once I realized it I felt stuck.  My actions were no longer servings me and I had dug myself in such a hole it felt overwhelming to get out of.  But girl, I’m here to tell you if you drag yourself out of it and re-connect with your purpose you will feel unstoppable.

Society tells us ways we ‘should’ live.  We should go to college.  We should get a good paying job with benefits.  We should get married and have kids.  We should _________ .

When you live your life according to the should’s of the world you lose yourself.  You disconnect with what makes you happy.  You live life for others and wake up one day asking “how did I get here?”

You may feel that way right now and if you do I beg you to run as fast as you can in the opposite direction.

In all seriousness, life is short.  Is what you do on a daily basis making you happy?  Is it elevating your life?  Is it fulfilling?  Or is it draining, overwhelming and stressful?

Finding your purpose is simple but it takes effort on your part moment by moment, day by day.  In the last blog post I walk you through how to create your personal core values.  If you didn’t do that work I highly suggest starting there.  If you did, high five sista!

Once you have your core values it is clear to see what your purpose is in life.  It is clear to see what opportunities will serve you and which will drain you.  Each day as you’re presented with options you have to first ask yourself the question “does this align with my core values?”  If so, it serves your purpose in life.  If not, it doesn’t serve your purpose and it will drain your energy.

So what is your purpose in life?  What makes you, YOU?

When you determine this and list your core values then align your daily actions to it you will find your flow.  You will be fully fulfilled and success will come your way.

Why it is important to have Personal Core Values

Hey beautiful.

Do you have a list of personal core values you live your life by?

You maybe thinking “what are personal core values?”  or “why would I need that?”

Trust me, I thought that too until one day I asked myself why I constantly felt stuck.  I wanted more from life, I had big goals in my mind but I couldn’t seem to find traction to take action and achieve them.

I found myself in the rat race of life.  Constantly being reactive to what the world brought me.

You may relate, for example if someone asked for my help I would drop almost anything to help because I wanted to make other people happy.  When I started my personal training business I felt guilty for charging people which kept me small for along time because I was not valuing my worth.

I lived life for others, not for myself first.

Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t help out where you can.  What I’m saying it that you need to connect with yourself first and give back in areas that fit your core values and align with your goals.  If something doesn’t align with your core values you will help that person so much more by declining for two reasons:

  1. You will not resent the task
  2. The person asking for help can find the right person that can bring 100% to the task instead of the half effort you would bring by saying yes out of obligation

Do you get where I’m going with this?

By deeply understanding your personal priorities in life and knowing what serves you, you will in turn serve the world in a much better way.

So how do you create personal core values?  It is simple but it takes time sitting in silence connecting with yourself.  Are you up for it?

Find quiet space where you can dedicate at minimum 30 minutes alone to complete the exercises below.

Answer the following questions:

  1. When you’re not taking care of yourself how do you show up for others?
  2. When you’re taking care of yourself how do you show up for others?
  3. What makes you the happiest in life?
  4. Why do you do what you do on a daily basis? (example: to support your family, to have the ability to travel, to give back, etc.)
  5. What do you feel your life purpose is?
  6. What are your top 5 priorities in life? (example: family, health, faith, etc.)

Now it is time to develop your personal Core Values. Core Values are a list of 2-5 values to live your life by.  All your decisions will be made based on how well they align with your personal Core Values.

By creating Core Values and aligning your everyday actions to them you will begin to step into a new confident you. You will have clarity on what opportunities to say yes to and what opportunities to decline in a loving, polite manner.

Core Values will be different from person to person, there is no right or wrong and they will evolve as you continue to develop.

Start with a list of words that have deep meaning to you then develop 3-5 statements that will become your Personal Core Values.

A few personal core value examples are:

  1. I nourish my mind body and soul with healthy food, exercise,sufficient sleep, positive people and information to function at an optimal level.
  2. I give back 10% of my earnings to the local community as a service to help others.
  3. I put my family first, before committing to opportunities I ask, “will this benefit my family?”

How to attract more Positive Into your Life

Last week the Gorgeous Strength community completed a 4 day #gorgeousstrengthmovement challenge.  The focus of the challenge was to post 1 photo or video per day of something positive.  This could be someone unexpectedly buying your coffee or your kiddos massaging your feet because it is your last month of pregnancy and they’re taking care of you.

The goal of the challenge was to show that the more we focus on the positive things in our life no matter the size, the more we will attract positive into our lives and the more we will experience bliss in even the mundane.

So before I dive into the feedback of what the Gorgeous Strength community took away from the 4 day challenge, check out some of the posts…

The biggest take away from this challenge is we have more in our lives to be thankful for than we often see and when we slow down to become grateful the lenses we see life through change, when the lenses change success, joy and happiness begins to come our way.
